Privacy Policy

Effective date: 14 May 2026 | The Marimba Studio
1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how The Marimba Studio handles personal information, account data, Rumble Points, song progress, saved recordings, settings, payment and subscription records, and related app data.

This policy should be read together with the Terms of Service. Creating a profile is voluntary. If you create a profile or use synced features, you understand that certain information must be processed so the app can log you in, save your data, and sync your profile across devices.

Using online profile features is done at your own risk. The Marimba Studio uses reasonable care, but no online service can promise that data storage, email delivery, authentication, browsers, networks, or third-party systems will always be uninterrupted or completely secure.
2. Who Operates The Marimba Studio

The Marimba Studio is created and operated by Alistair Dickerson, operating under the creative brand The Rumble God. RumbleWebsites is the web design, development, hosting, and maintenance brand operated by Alistair Dickerson.

3. Information Collected When You Create a Profile

If you create or use a profile, The Marimba Studio may process:

Email address, full name, username, and profile identifiers.
Authentication details handled by Supabase Auth. Passwords are handled by the authentication provider and should not be stored in plain text by The Marimba Studio frontend.
Google account information if you choose Google login, such as Google email, display name, and profile image/avatar where provided by Google.
Login/session information needed to keep you signed in and protect your account.
4. Profile App Data Stored

When you are signed in, The Marimba Studio may store app data linked to your profile, including:

Rumble Point balance, total earned, total spent, RP events, and RP source totals.
Owned songs, feature unlocks, songbook access, and purchase/unlock records.
Completed songs, completed difficulty levels, learning progress, and timestamps.
Saved settings such as play mode, volume, metronome values, MIDI preferences, and display preferences.
Recording metadata and saved performance files, including title, duration, marimba type, BPM, creation date, and storage location.
Payment and subscription records such as payment order IDs, payment status, amount, currency, selected plan or RP pack, PayFast references, subscription token, billing cycle, renewal period, cancellation status, and payment audit information.
Support or contact information if you contact The Marimba Studio directly.
5. Guest and Browser-Local Data

Guests can use selected free parts of the app without creating a profile. Some guest progress or preferences may be stored only in the browser on the same device, such as free song progress, tutorial state, loading preferences, or temporary settings.

Browser-local data may be lost if you clear browser data, switch browsers, use another device, or if the browser removes stored data. Guest data is not guaranteed to sync across devices.

6. Why This Information Is Used

Information is used to provide and improve the app experience, including:

Creating and securing accounts.
Saving RP, progress, unlocks, settings, recordings, and dashboard data.
Sending account confirmation emails, password reset emails, and essential service messages.
Supporting cross-device sync between desktop and mobile.
Preventing abuse, debugging errors, maintaining security, and responding to support requests.
7. Third-Party Services

The Marimba Studio may rely on third-party services to operate profile and website features:

Supabase for authentication, database storage, profile data, and recording storage.
Google for optional Google sign-in and profile image/email information where you choose that login method.
PayFast for payment checkout, recurring subscription billing, payment verification, cancellation requests, and payment status notifications.
Email/SMTP services for transactional messages such as confirmation and password reset emails.
Website hosting, browser, CDN, analytics, security, or infrastructure services needed to operate the website.

The Marimba Studio does not intend to store full card or bank details directly in the app. Payment details are processed by the payment provider. The Marimba Studio stores only the payment and subscription records needed to verify payments, grant RP or subscription benefits, prevent fraud or duplicate credits, support cancellations, keep audit logs, and respond to payment support requests.

9. Storage, Security, and International Processing

The Marimba Studio uses reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect profile data. Access rules are designed so users can only access their own profile-linked records.

Because third-party services such as Supabase, Google, hosting providers, and email providers may operate internationally, your information may be processed or stored outside South Africa. By using profile features, you understand that this may happen.

You are responsible for using a strong password, keeping your login details private, protecting your Google account if you use Google login, and logging out on shared devices.

10. Data Retention

Profile data is kept for as long as your account is active, as long as needed to provide the Service, or as long as legally or operationally necessary. Recordings and profile content may remain stored until deleted by you where controls are available, or until removed as part of account deletion or maintenance.

Payment, subscription, audit, tax, security, email, backup, or fraud-prevention records may remain for longer where needed for accounting, dispute handling, legal compliance, technical recovery, or abuse prevention.

11. Your Privacy Rights

Subject to applicable law, you may request access to your personal information, correction of inaccurate information, deletion of information, objection to certain processing, withdrawal of consent where processing relies on consent, or information about how your data is handled.

Requests can be sent to marimba@therumblegod.co.za. You may also have the right to contact the South African Information Regulator if you believe your privacy rights have been infringed.

12. Children and Young Users

The Marimba Studio may be used by learners, students, and younger musicians. If a child or young user creates a profile, a parent, guardian, teacher, or responsible adult should supervise the use of the account and understand what information is being provided.

13. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as The Marimba Studio grows, especially as profile storage, recordings, mobile sync, monetisation plans, or third-party services change. Updated versions will be posted with a new effective date.
